The board of trustees and administrators of the Bradley Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center are basking in the glow of a very positive audit for 2010, perhaps the most positive audit in the history of the county’s nonprofit nursing home.

Bill Matheney of Matheney Stees and Associates presented the audit to the BHRC board at Tuesday’s monthly meeting, emphasizing the professional management of the board and administration.

One of the most positive factors was the facility’s Z score, which determines when a facility may be at risk or is free of risk.

Matheney said a nursing home with a 2.8 score would probably face little risk of the possibility of bankruptcy, while a facility with a 1 to 1.5 rating could be at a high risk.

“You’re at 9.5!” the accountant then told the board. Matheney later said this score is probably in the top 10 percent of similar facilities in the Southeastern U.S.

The auditor also said BHRC also comes out very well in evaluations of nursing homes nationwide. “You’re in very good shape,” he told the board and management.

BHRC comptroller Sandy Brock, who has been with BHRC through its ups and downs over the past 16 years, said this audit is not an overnight achievement. “We’ve been improving every year for the past eight to 10 years,” she said. “We’ve become like a family.”
